Porcier
The Porcians (Latin gens Porcia or Porcii ) were a Roman plebeian family . She came from Tusculum . The name Porcus (dt. Pig ) goes back to the fact that pig breeding was one of the gens' sources of income . Since the second half of the 3rd century BC They provided numerous magistrates , but not yet a consul, and thus developed into one of the most influential families.
There were many branches of the Porcians, the most important being the Licini , Catones, and Lacae . With Marcus Porcius Cato the Elder , the family presented in 195 BC. The first consul , in 184 BC. With Lucius Porcius Licinus the second line became consular.
The most used prenomen of the Porcians were Lucius and Marcus.
