Marcus S. Kleiner

Marcus S. Kleiner (* 1973 ) is a German author, journalist, media and cultural scientist.

Life

Kleiner studied philosophy, sociology and literature. In 2006 he became a sociologist with a work on media heterotopias. PhD in discourse spaces of a socially critical media theory under Hermann Strasser . Since 1999 he has taught at universities in Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Bonn, Magdeburg, Paderborn, Siegen, Klagenfurt and Vienna, at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences, the Munich University of Music and Theater , the Macromedia University in Stuttgart and at the Baden-Württemberg Pop Academy in Mannheim .

From 2011 to 2015, Kleiner was the spokesman for the “AG Popular Culture and Media” in the Society for Media Studies (GfM). He is co-editor and editor of the online magazine “Rock and Pop in the Movies” and a columnist for pop music in the magazine “Pop. Culture and Criticism ”. Kleiner is the editor of the new series series cultures for the analysis of international television series since the 1950s at VS Verlag für Sozialwissenschaften and co-editor of the new series Pop Cultures (together with Ramón Reichert) at transcript Verlag.

He works as a freelance media consultant, project and event manager, organizer, moderator, copywriter and radio play author as well as a media expert in print, radio and television. Since September 2015, Kleiner has had the radio section " SWR1 Music Professor" and since January 2016 the radio section " SWR3 A matter of opinion".

Since 2016 Kleiner Professor for Media and Communication Studies at the University of Popular Arts in Berlin and head of the MA course "Experience Communication " there.
