Thomas Hedges
Thomas Hecken (* 1964 in Bochum ) is a German literary and cultural scientist with a research focus on pop culture .
Life and work
Hecken studied German and philosophy at the Ruhr University in Bochum . During his studies in the 1980s he worked as a publicist and journalist and wrote articles a. a. Written for Spex , Elaste and The Everyday Life . He received his doctorate in 1997 and completed his habilitation in 2003, before working as a private lecturer from 2004 and as a substitute professor for modern German studies at the German Institute of the Ruhr University Bochum from 2007. He is currently professor of modern German literature at the University of Siegen .
In his cultural theoretical work, he deals with the history, criticism and concepts of pop culture . He has contributed significantly to the scientific processing of theories of pop culture as well as to their conceptual analysis. Since 2006 he has published the book series "Schriften zur Popkultur", which is published by Posth Verlag. In 2012 he founded the magazine POP.Culture and Criticism , which is published by Transcript Verlag and online and analyzes and comments on the most important trends in current pop culture in the areas of music and fashion , politics and economics , internet and television , literature and art . Another important field of research is dealing with the concept of the avant-garde .
