Marcus Woelfle

Marcus Adrian Woelfle (born February 1, 1964 in Munich ) is a German jazz author, jazz journalist, radio presenter and jazz violinist.

Act

Woelfle, son of an Italian and a Bavarian, studied literature and then became a journalist. From 1993 he worked as a radio journalist for “ Jazz Welle Plus ” and “ LORA Munich ”. Since 1997 he has moderated jazz programs for the Bavarian radio ("Jazztime", "Radiojazznacht", "All that Jazz"). He is the editor of the “ Jazzzeitung ” and also writes for Rondo Magazin , Jazz thing , the Neue Musikzeitung and Jazz Podium . On the record label ZYX Music he published the “Birthday Celebration” series about jazz musicians. He is the author of a jazz dictionary and z. B. of audio books about Chet Baker , Charles Mingus , Thelonious Monk . He writes programs (e.g. for the Munich Chamber Orchestra) and booklets for CDs and DVDs (e.g. for Arthaus).

Woelfle has played jazz violin since the 1990s in his own "Marcus Woelfle Quartet" (under the motto "From Swing to Bop"). Since 2002 he has been playing in a duo with accordion player Gianni Coscia . In addition to the violin, he also plays the viola. Woelfle also composes and performs his compositions with his quartet and with the combo "Der adventurous Violinissimus", founded in 2000. He performed with the writer Joseph von Westphalen , made theater music, played gypsy swing with “Ferry's Hot Club”, interpreted compositions by Joschi Schumann with Titus Waldenfels , Alex de Santis and Rudi Schießl in the group “Jazzczyk”, looked occasionally the encounter with early music with the jazz pianist Christian Ludwig Mayer and world music with “ Embryo ”, for example with the Chinese Erhu player Xizhie Nie.

Woelfle was the artistic director of the “International Music Days Kloster Schlehdorf ”. He is a member of the jury for the “ German Record Critics ' Award ”. Woelfle lived in Munich and from 2009 also in Cortona, Tuscany. In 2017 he moved with his family to Waldkirchen in Lower Bavaria.
