The Mare de Zoui is a small, non-permanent freshwater lake , the only one of its kind in the Tibesti Mountains. It is located northeast of the Zoui oasis and 10 km east of Bardaï , the capital of the Tibesti region in northern Chad .
It is located in the Enneri Bardagué (Enneri = wadi , dry valley), from which it is mainly fed, also possibly via smaller streams coming from the north. After the very rare heavy rainfall in the Tibesti, the Enneri fills up, whereupon the otherwise completely dry Mare de Zoui fills with water for a short time and becomes a freshwater lake. According to a publication from 1992, no scientific study of the water, the surface of which is a few hectares, has yet been carried out. According to this source, the vegetation on the shore of the lake is dominated by the plants of the genus Phragmites and Typha (probably Phragmites australis and Typha capensis ). According to this source, the Salvadora persica and the Tamarix articulata grow near the shore ; the tamarisk is the more dominant species and prefers to grow on the valley floor of the Enneri . Acacia nilotica also grow in the higher elevations . The lake is also said to be rich in phytoplankton .
