Naboua Ratieta

Naboua Ratieta (born April 26, 1938 in Banaba , Gilbert and Ellica Islands , † June 12, 1986 ) was a politician, party founder and first chief minister of today's Kiribati , who contributed significantly to the achievement of the sovereignty of the state.

Life

Ratieta received his education at the King George V School on Tarawa before entering community service within the British Protectorate Administration for the Protectorate of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands. In 1960 he was promoted to Assistant Information Officer and was editor of the "Colony Information Notes" , the predecessor of the "Atoll Pioneer" .

The first House of Representatives was opened in 1963, and in 1965 the first party, the Gilbertese National Party (GNP), was founded by Ratieta, Reuben Uatioa and others.

In 1967 he was elected to the Maneaba ni Maungatabu ( House of Assembly ) and became a member of the Legislative Council as representative of the Marakei Council in 1971. After his re-election in 1974, he was first Chief Minister from May 1974 to March 1978, before the highest office of sovereignty. The predecessor in the leadership of the Maneaba ni Maungatabu was Reuben Kiraua Uatioa (1924-1977) from April 1971 to May 1974, successor as Chief Minister was his political opponent Ieremia Tabai from March 1978 to July 12, 1979, before he became the first president .
