Marek Zaleski (2006)

Marek Zaleski (born October 12, 1952 in Łomża ) is a Polish literary historian , literary critic and essayist .

Life

Zaleski spent his childhood in Warsaw , where he attended high school . After graduating from high school in 1971, he studied Polish studies at the University of Warsaw and obtained his master's degree in 1976 . He then took up postgraduate studies at the Institute for Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences , where he was employed as a research assistant in 1980 . There he received his doctorate in 1983 with the work Przygoda drugiej awangardy and was hired as a research assistant . He spent 1986 and 1987 in Paris on a scholarship . After his return to Poland he became a member of the editorial board of the monthly Res Publica , took over the management of the cultural department in 1989 and spent that year on a scholarship in the USA . With Andrzej Titkow he created and moderated the literary program Świat przedstawiony on TVP2 in 1991 . In addition, he also spent some time in the USA this year thanks to another scholarship. With the work Formy pamięci. O przedstawieniu przeszłości w polskiej literaturze współczesnej , he completed his habilitation in 1996 at the Instytut Badań Literackich and became a lecturer in 1997 . From 2000 to 2007 he was deputy editor-in-chief of Res Publica Nowa . He spent 2001 in the USA as part of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa . Since 2005 he has been leading postgraduate studies at the Instytut Badań Literackich. From 2005 to 2007 and from 2017 to 2018 he was a member of the jury for the Nike Literature Prize . In 2010 he was appointed professor at the Instytut Badań Literackich, where he became head of the research group Literature and Culture of the Late Modern Period.

He lives in Warsaw.
