Kazimierz Wyka Prize

The Kazimierz Wyka Prize ( Polish: Nagroda Marszałka Województwa Małopolskiego i Prezydenta Miasta Krakowa im. Kazimierza Wyki ) is an important Polish award for essay writing , literary and art criticism . It is awarded by the Voivodeship Marshal of Lesser Poland and the Mayor of Krakow for the entire work. The amount of the grant is determined annually depending on the budget of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.

history

Shortly after the death of the literary critic and university professor Kazimierz Wyka in 1975, Jan Pieszczachowicz, then chairman of the Krakow Literature Association, approached the mayor of Krakow with a request to set up a literary criticism award. The prize was awarded for the first time in 1980. After martial law was declared , the award was suspended for two years and resumed in 1984. After administrative changes in 1989, the award was presented over the next ten years by the voivod of Lesser Poland and the mayor of Krakow. In the course of the new administrative reforms in 1999, the prize was awarded from 2000 to 2003 only by the Voivodeship Marshal of Lesser Poland.

jury

The jury is composed of representatives of the intellectual and artistic milieu from Lesser Poland. In addition, since 2009 the previous year's winner has been entitled to a one-year membership.
