Marian Stala

Marian Stala (born September 13, 1952 in Tarnobrzeg ) is a Polish literary historian and literary critic . In his scientific research he is mainly concerned with the poetry of young Poland .

Life

Stala attended grammar school in Tarnobrzeg and passed the Abitur there in 1971. He then studied Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow . He obtained his master's degree there in 1976 and was employed as a research assistant . He received his doctorate in 1983 with the thesis Metaforyzacja w liryce Młodej Polski. Teoria i Praktyka . In addition, he worked from 1982 to 1985 as literary director at the Juliusz Słowacki Theater in Krankau. From 1983 to 1989 he edited the spoken magazine NaGłos and from 1990 to 1998 also worked on the printed version. In 1987 he became a permanent employee of the Tygodnik Powszechny newspaper , where he headed the cultural department from 1998 to 2000. He completed his habilitation in 1995 with the thesis Pejsaż chłowieka. Młodopolskie myśli i wyobrażenia o duszy, duchu i ciele . He was a jury member of several Polish literary prizes: the Nike Literature Prize from 2006 to 2008, the Wroclaw Silesius Poetry Prize from 2008 to 2010 and the Wisława Szymborska Prize . Since 2011 he has headed the Chair of the Literary History of Positivism and Young Poland at the Jagiellonian University.

He lives in Krakow.
