Maren Günther

Maren Günther (born June 18, 1931 in Dreilützow ) is a German politician of the CSU .

Life

Günther trained as a catechist from 1951 and then worked as a youth leader. In 1956 she began studying to be a teacher at the University of Munich . From 1962 she worked as a teacher in Munich , in 1977 she was promoted to rector. At times she was deputy state chairwoman of the Bavarian School Directors Association.

Günther held several European political offices. She was a member of the executive boards of the European Women's Union and the Women's Union of the CSU , as well as the Comité Directeur of the women's group of the European People's Party . She was also a co-founder of the ARGE-Alpen of Christian-Democratic Women and a member of the European Union and the Pan-European Union .

On August 31, 1993 Günther moved to the European Parliament, to which she was a member until 1999. From 1997 she was Vice-Chair of the EU - Malta Joint Parliamentary Committee , of which she was a member from 1994. She was also a full member of the Committees on Foreign Affairs and Security and Development and Cooperation, the Subcommittee on Security and Disarmament and the Delegation for Relations with the Republics of the Commonwealth of Independent States .
