Veľká Ves (Hungarian Losoncnagyfalu - until 1907 Nagyfalu ) is a municipality in the southern central Slovakia of Slovakia with 441 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) and belongs to Okres Poltár , a circle of kraj Banskobystrický .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Lučenská kotlina basin (part of the larger unit Juhoslovenská kotlina ) on the edge of the Slovak Ore Mountains in the valley of a left bank tributary of the Krivánsky potok and thus in the catchment area of the Ipeľ . The center of the village is at an altitude of 204 m nm and is ten kilometers from Lučenec and twelve kilometers from Poltár .
Neighboring municipalities are Točnica in the north, Kalinovo in the east, Lučenec in the south, Vidiná in the south and Tomášovce in the west.
history
Veľká Ves was first mentioned in writing in 1332 as Magna Villa ; specifically, it is a parish in what was then the parish of Breznička . Other historical names are Nagfalw (1424) and Welka Wes (1773). In the Middle Ages, the village was one of the important villages in the dominion of Diwein Castle . In 1540 she came to the Mocsáry family . In 1828 there were 41 houses and 380 inhabitants, at that time, in addition to agriculture, wheelwright and pottery were common.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Neograd County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In 1944 the village was electrified.
Veľká Ves means “big village” in German.
population
According to the 2011 census, Veľká Ves had 454 inhabitants, including 442 Slovaks, 3 Magyars and 1 Rome . Eight residents gave no information in this regard. 235 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 109 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, five residents to the Reformed Church, eight residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church. 63 residents had no denomination and 39 residents had no denomination.

Veľká Ves has one stop on the Lučenec – Utekáč line with a few train connections a day.
The 2nd order road 595 ( Tomášovce –Poltár– Kokava nad Rimavicou ) runs through the village, connecting to 1st order road 16 ( E 58 ) three kilometers from Veľká Ves .
