Marga Cella

Marga Cella (actually Margherita Vassallo Cella, contessa di Rivara ; born November 12, 1893 in Milan , † January 6, 1964 in Bologna ) was an Italian actress .

Life

Cella learned acting from Teresa Boeti-Valvassura and got her first engagement with Giuseppe Sichel and soon switched to Antonio Gandusio , where she attracted attention as a "comic actress". Numerous other ensemble positions followed: in 1921 she led her own with Ugo Farulli , 1922/1923 with Aristide Baghetti (where antics were performed), 1924 with Cella / Firpo / Mario Gallina , 1925 as Cella / Luigi Zoncada / Ruggero Capodaglio , the following year with Mario Gallina again. In 1927 she performed with the “Nuovo” troupe in Naples, and in 1929/1930 again alongside Gallina.

In 1931 Cella worked again with Ruggero Capodaglio and after a short time with Tatiana Pavlova retired from acting. She could only be seen again after the Second World War, when she became a member of the "Compagnia del Ridotto"; with the Florence group under Luchino Visconti she starred in Jean Anouilh's Eurydice and the Italian premiere of Howard Lindsay's Life with Father , the following year in the director's version of William Shakespeare's As You Like It . This was followed by positions at the Roman "Teatro dei Satiri" and "Goldoni". She also belonged to the “Compagnia di Prosa” of Radio Firenze .

The Italian film production could do little with the posh, situated actress. After two silent films in 1922 and a supporting role ten years later, she played character roles in about a dozen films from 1949.
