Margaret Ferrier

Margaret Ferrier (born September 10, 1960 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Ferrier was born in Glasgow and moved to Rutherglen in 1972 . After 1990 she lived in Cambuslang for 15 years . She worked as a group leader at a large company in Motherwell and studied at Glasgow University . Ferrier is a member of Amnesty International and has a daughter.

Political career

Ferrier has a seat on the council of a district of Cambuslang. Labor politician Tom Greatrex has represented Ferrier's home constituency since 2010, Rutherglen and Hamilton West in the House of Commons . For the general election in 2015 , the SNP placed Ferrier, who was 54 at the time, in this constituency. With the massive gains in votes by the SNP in these elections, it clearly won the mandate with a share of 52.6% of the votes and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. In the shadow cabinet of the SNP, Ferrier is planned as spokeswoman for the Scotland Office . In the early general election in 2017, Ferrier was narrowly defeated by Labor challenger Gerard Killen and subsequently left the House of Commons. She regained her mandate in the 2019 general election.
