Margatoxin (synonym potassium channel blocker alpha-KTx 2.2 ) is a toxin from the scorpion Centruroides margaritatus .

properties

Margatoxin is a protein and scorpion toxin . It inhibits potassium channels such as B. Kv1.1 / KCNA1 ( IC 50 = 0.144 nM , K d = 4.2 nM), Kv1.2 / KCNA2 (IC 50 = 0.675 nM, K d = 6.4 pM), Kv1.3 / KCNA3 ( IC 50 = 0.23 nM, K d = 11.7 pM) and Shaker (Kd = 160 nM). Margatoxin is structurally related to Iberiotoxin and Noxiustoxin , it consists of an α-helix and a β-sheet of three strands. Compared to charybdotoxin a and b , the leaflet is slightly larger.
