Geographical location

Bekopaka, with around 9,000 inhabitants (as of 2001), is located at 334 m above sea level in the Melaky region , in the Mahajanga province , in western Madagascar. The Manambolo River borders Bekopaka to the south. The Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site , is not far from the town.

Economy and Infrastructure

The inhabitants, who belong to the Sakalava people , make a living from agriculture and mainly grow rice, bananas, maize and cassava . In addition, ecotourism is an important source of income.

The National Route 8 runs through Bekopaka . In addition, the private Malagasy airline Madagascar Trans Air has built an airport to transport tourists to the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park faster and more comfortably .
