Margem is a small town ( Vila ) and municipality in the Portuguese region of Alentejo . The seat of the municipality is in the village of Vale De Gaviões.

history

Margem received its first town charter from King D. Manuel in 1518.

It remained the seat of its own district until the administrative reforms after the liberal Miguelistenkrieg in 1834, with which the Margem district was dissolved in 1836 and incorporated into the Gavião district.
