Margret Schleidt

Margret Else Schleidt (* July 20, 1928 in Duisburg as Margret Else Zimmer ; † March 13, 2012 in Andechs ) was a German human ethologist . She did research at the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology in Seewiesen , the current Max Planck Institute for Ornithology .

Life

Margret Else Schleidt studied biology at the universities in Bonn, Zurich and Freiburg. She worked on her dissertation at Konrad Lorenz's research center in Buldern . In 1955 she did her doctorate in animal ethology with Otto Koehler , Freiburg i. Br. She then worked in Konrad Lorenz's team at the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology in Seewiesen. During this time she worked with Wolfgang Schleidt in the field of ornithology. From 1963 to 1974 she headed the secretariat of the Lorenz team.

From 1974 she belonged to the human ethology research group of Irenäus Eibl-Eibesfeldt in Seewiesen. Her research focus was human communication. She published on the importance of smell , the mother-child relationship and rhythmic movement phenomena. She examined the three-second constant in different repetitive behaviors, such as stirring in a saucepan, scratching the skin, and in non-repetitive behaviors in different cultures, as well as in chimpanzees and baboons. She supervised diploma and doctoral theses.

In 1987 she taught at the University of Munich and from 1990 to 2010 at the University of Innsbruck (with her colleagues Gerhard Medicus and Wulf Schiefenhövel ). With her research and lecturing she had an influence on non-fiction and specialist books by her colleagues and was quoted by Konrad Lorenz , Irenäus Eibl-Eibesfeldt , Wulf Schiefenhövel and others.
