Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary, Dachau

The Church of the Assumption of Mary is a Roman Catholic parish church in Dachau-Süd.

Building

The church was built between 1954 and 1956 according to plans by the architect Friedrich Haindl (Munich) and has been a listed building since 1996.

The nave with a pitched roof has an octagonal floor plan with seating for around 500 people. In front is the apse . The windows are predominantly designed with concrete and glass elements. The interior has mostly white wall surfaces. The vaulted surfaces were painted by the church painter Richard Huber (Dachau), who also colored the figure of Mary by the sculptor Franz Lorch (Munich) in the apse.

The Kaps organ

Until 2013 there was an organ in the parish church from 1959, built by the organ builder Staller , which was no longer playable due to the poor post-war material. In 2015 a new organ was inaugurated. The instrument was built by the organ builders Christoph and Matthias Kaps . It has 41 registers on three manual works and pedal . The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric. In terms of sound, the instrument is designed for balance and naturalness as far as possible; Despite the unspectacular, seemingly universal disposition, the organ can convincingly bring most of the organ literature to life.
