The Catholic branch and pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary , also called Marienkapelle , in Neuhäder , a district of the market town of Dinkelscherben in the Swabian district of Augsburg in Bavaria , was built in 1719/20 and is a protected architectural monument .

history

A chapel dedicated to the Blessed Virgin stood north of Häder . In the 15th century, the developed pilgrimage to the miraculous image of Häder. In 1593 a Lady Chapel with two altars is mentioned. The chapel surrounded a small number of houses that grew steadily. A separate district emerged from the settlement, which has been called Neuhäder since the 19th century . The right of presentation was exercised by the Reichsstift St. Ulrich and Afra in Augsburg until secularization .

Abbot Willibald Popp ordered the construction of today's church in 1719/20. It is possible that the master bricklayer Georg Rainer from Ichenhausen built it . The consecration took place on September 14, 1721 by Auxiliary Bishop Johann Jakob von Mayr. In 1726 the interior was redesigned in Baroque style and in 1727 a benefit house was added. The farmer Leonhard Rössle and the pastor Michael Gastl enabled an early measurement foundation in 1732 with the approval of the monastery .

After the secularization , the right of presentation fell to the Bavarian sovereign. In 1979 the exterior was renovated.

The single-nave nave is provided with a needle cap barrel and structured with pilasters. The retracted choir has a three-sided rounded end inside and a semicircular end outside.

Furnishing

The delicate stucco work was created around 1726. The frescoes in the choir and nave show scenes from the life of Mary: The Immaculate Mary, the Assumption of Mary and the Coronation of Mary. The altars are from around 1720. The side figures stand on plinths above acanthus volutes. The miraculous image in the main altar dates from the early 15th century and a crucifix probably from the late 15th century. On the gallery parapet are the figures of St. Dorothea and St. Magnus attached. The figures of St. Catherine, St. Barbara and Maria's parents, Joachim and Anna, are attributed to the sculptor Johann Pflaum from Münsterhausen . Votive plaques remind of the once lively pilgrimage.

A small, simple late Gothic winged altar shows St. Ulrich and St. Afra and on the inside the Descent from the Cross. The paintings on the outside are dated to the late 15th century. The remaining parts have been repainted in modern times . Neuhäder is one of the few churches in the Augsburg district that has paintings from the late Gothic period .

In the choir is the tombstone for the beneficiary Laurentius Baur († 1769).
