Maria Bertilla Boscardin , real name Anna Francesca Boscardin (born October 6, 1888 in Goia di Brendola , Vicenza , † October 20, 1922 in Treviso ) is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church .

Life

Maria Bertilla comes from a modest peasant family and joined the Dorothee Sisters community at a young age . She initially worked in the kitchen and later trained as a nurse in Treviso. Due to conflicts with her superiors, she was then looked after with other tasks.

Eventually she found her calling in serving the sick, especially sick children, during the First World War.

At the age of 22, she was operated on for a tumor . She died at the age of 34 after another unsuccessful operation after the tumor had returned.

Maria Bertilla Boscardin was born by Pope John XXIII. canonized on May 11, 1961.
