Maria Diana Bursuc (born August 6, 1986 in Botoșani , Romania ) is a former Romanian rowing athlete . She is a three-time European champion and won two world championship medals in rowing.

Career

Bursuc started rowing in 2002 and just two years later she won her first international gold medal at the world championships for juniors in eighth . As a result, she started for a long time in the U23 age group in the quadruple , where she won two titles at the world championships in 2006 and 2008. From the 2007 season onwards, she was introduced to the open age group via the women's double scull by being allowed to compete in the 2007 and 2008 European Championships . There, however, only twice managed to participate in the B final, where a seventh and an eighth place were achieved.

From 2009 Bursuc was able to secure a place in the strong Romanian women's eighth. This won the European Championship consistently between 2007 and 2014, and Bursuc was involved in these successes from 2009 to 2011. She also won two other medals with the team at the 2009 and 2010 World Rowing Championships . For the 2012 Olympic season, however, Bursuc slipped out of the eight team, so that they missed qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. In the double scull she won a bronze medal together with Adelina Cojocariu at the European Rowing Championships in 2012 . Bursuc finally ended her international rowing career after the Olympic season.

Bursuc started for the Stiinta CS association . Their competition weight was around 69 kg.
