Career

Lara Vadlau started sailing at the age of seven and competed in her first competition at the age of nine. As a teenager she won her first major titles, including the gold medal in the Byte CII class at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and gold in the 420 class at the 2010 Youth Sailing World Championships. Vadlau stepped at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in the 470 class with her then team colleague Eva-Maria Schimak and took 20th place. At 18 years and 128 days, Vadlau was the youngest female sailor at these Olympic Games.

After the 2012 Olympics, she separated from Schimak and formed a crew with Jolanta Ogar , with whom she quickly established herself among the world's best. Together with Ogar, Vadlau won silver at the 2013 sailing world championships and gold in 2014 as the first Austrian women's team. In 2014, Lara Vadlau and Jolanta Ogar were named Team of the Year by the Austrian Sports Journalists Association . In 2015 they won another title in the 470 class at the World Cup in Haifa .

The duo Vadlau / Ogar traveled to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as the big favorites, but only finished the 470 races in ninth place.

After this disappointment, Vadlau and Ogar only sailed together once, at the World Cup finals off Melbourne in December 2016, where they also took the overall victory. After that, they did not take part in any regattas. On May 1, 2017, Lara Vadlau and Jolanta Ogar announced their separation in a broadcast.
