The Maria Königin Church is a Roman Catholic branch church of the Trier diocese in Dörsdorf , a district of Lebach in the Saarlouis district . It belongs to the parish of St. Aloysius in Steinbach .

history

Historically, Dörsdorf, like the neighboring town of Steinbach, belonged to the parish of St. Alban in Thalexweiler for a long time . Due to the strong increase in the number of inhabitants and the long distances, the desire for a church building of their own grew. For this reason, the parish church of St. Aloysius in Steinbach was built in 1913. The location on the outskirts was chosen deliberately, as this church was supposed to serve as a common church for the people of Steinbach and Dörsdorf. Due to the continued strong population growth after the Second World War, the desire for a branch church in Dörsdorf arose. For this reason, efforts to build their own church were resumed and a church building association was founded in 1957. It was not until 1961 that the building of the church was decided and approved. In 1961, construction work began in the center of the village with the preparation of the property and the laying of the foundation stone. The solemn consecration of the Maria Königin Church took place on May 27, 1964 by the Trier Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Bernhard Stein instead. The patron saint is Saint Michael .

Building description

The church was built according to the plans of the architect Hans Schick and has an almost square floor plan. The free-standing massive bell tower is only broken up in the upper fifth by sound exits from the bell cage and ends flat. It is crowned by a large tower cross, which means that the tower has a total height of 34 m. The white facade is adorned with a representation of the Archangel Michael, the patron saint of the church. Inside, a wide room opens up in the shape of a Greek cross with short and wide arms, which is spanned by four load-bearing concrete pillars and a flat wooden ceiling. The inner corners of the Greek cross are designed as large windows and flood the room with bright light. Due to the square floor plan, there is a low adjoining room under each inner corner. In the front area of the church these are designed as side chapels, while in the rear part they function as vestibules for the two entrances. At the front of the church there is a wide semicircular apse, which is bricked with natural stones and brightly lit through a circular window in the ceiling. On the opposite side is the generous organ loft with the Seifert organ from 1977. For a branch church, Maria Königin is extremely generous with approx. 600 seats.
