Maria Letizia Bonaparte

Maria Letizia Eugénie Catherine Adélaïde Bonaparte (born November 20, 1866 in Paris - † October 25, 1926 in Moncalieri ) was the second wife of Amadeo , Duke of Aosta and former King of Spain, a son of the Italian King Victor Emanuel II.

She was born on November 20, 1866 in Paris as the daughter of Napoléon Joseph Charles Paul Bonaparte , the son of Jérôme Bonaparte and thus nephew of Emperor Napoleon I , and his wife Maria Klothilde of Savoy, a daughter of the Italian King Victor Emanuel II , born. It was named after Napoleon's mother .

On September 11, 1888, she married her maternal uncle, Duke Amadeo, after his first wife Maria del Pozzo della Cisterna had died early in 1876.

The marriage produced a son:

  • Umberto Maria Vittorio Amedeo Giuseppe (June 22, 1889 - October 19, 1918), Duke of Salemi , who died in the First World War

Maria Letizia Bonaparte died at the age of 60 in Moncalieri and was buried in the family crypt of the House of Savoy in the Basilica di Superga in Turin .
