Jesús Méndez (born August 1, 1984 in San Rafael ) (civil Jesús David José Méndez ) is an Argentine football player .
Career
Jesús Méndez started his football career in the youth department of the Argentine top club River Plate in the state capital Buenos Aires . After making his debut in the first team in 2004 as a 19-year-old, he was loaned to Olimpo de Bahía Blanca for a year , where he was relegated with the team from the Argentine Primera División . For the 2006/07 season he should have switched to the Swiss first division club FC St. Gallen ; he even trained with the team for a few weeks. Then Méndez was completely surprisingly ordered back from River Plate, despite verbal and written approval for a loan transfer, as the newly hired coach Daniel Passarella wanted to keep him in his squad. For its part, FC St. Gallen decided not to involve FIFA because this step would only have resulted in the player being banned.
At River Plate, Jesús Méndez was unable to assert himself as desired in the following months and spent most of the time on the bench. Therefore, a move to FC St. Gallen in January 2007 became a hot topic again. The club communicated the midfielder's definitive commitment on January 28 of the young year. Méndez was given a contract until June 30, 2010 and should have switched to the eastern Swiss for a transfer fee of 700,000 euros . This is also the most expensive in the history of FC St. Gallen, which has existed since 1879. The then sports director René Weiler was relieved that the transfer was still successful in the second attempt: "Our long stamina paid off," he said.
For the start of the second half of the 2006/07 season, Méndez was considered a great hope and contributed the winning assists right from his first partial appearance in Schaffhausen . It was his only one. In the weeks and months that followed, Méndez found it extremely difficult both on and off the lawn. The young Argentine, who was only able to show his technical skills very rarely, showed great difficulty with the new environment, the language and the expectations of the audience. Sports director Weiler also did little to relieve Méndez. He had announced him when he was signed up as playmaker, although in his previous stations he had mainly played as a defensive midfielder - playing the classic number 6.
The disappointing performance meant that the unfortunate Méndez had to make do with the role of the joker in St. Gallen and only received a relatively few minutes of action. In the meantime he was even moved to the U21, the second team of FC St. Gallen. In January 2008, the fact that had emerged finally became a fact: Jesús Méndez returned to Rosario Central in Argentina after only 29 appearances (no scoring) wearing the "Espen" jersey .
In the summer of 2008 Méndez was definitely taken over by Rosario Central, although FC St. Gallen never officially communicated it. Very little is known about the details of this deal. With his new employer, however, after initial difficulties, he fought for a regular place in the starting line-up of the Argentine first division team and is now one of the public favorites.
After spending almost two years at Rosario Central, the traditional club Boca Juniors signed him in January 2010 .
