Maria Luise Prean-Bruni (born February 21, 1939 in Innsbruck , Tyrol ) is an Austrian missionary in Uganda and the author of several Christian books.

Life

Maria Luise Bruni grew up in a Catholic family and wanted to put her life under God's guidance right from her first communion . She attended a commercial academy, where she was trained in business and at the same time graduated from high school . She then worked for three years as a teacher for business administration, shorthand and typing. After a year abroad as an au pair in London, she passed the examination for secondary school teaching in English in 1961 and accepted a position in Innsbruck. The desire to become a mother herself gave rise to the decision to become an SOS mother . After four years in Dornbirn , she returned to Innsbruck in 1966, sick and exhausted. After working for a number of years in a tax consultancy, she emigrated to the USA in 1972, where she experienced a period of spiritual growth in the almost 14 years. Here she first worked as a hotel manager and later ran a Christian bookstore before she worked as a secretary in a pastoral training center. For the last two years she worked as an independent pastor .

Back in her home country, she met her husband Herbert Prean in 1986, whom she married that same year. When he retired a year later, they founded a congregation in the center of Innsbruck and the missionary organization “Leben in Jesus Christus eV”. Later they moved to Hoch-Imst / Tyrol, where they could buy houses for seminars, lectures and training courses to be able to perform. She continued this work after the death of her husband in 1992.

In 1995, on a trip to Uganda, she discovered her love for the people of this country. That is why she founded the association “Vision for Africa eV” in 2001 in order to enable orphans to attend school there, complete vocational training and thus a better future. In 2003, a rich African gave her 65 hectares of land on which she built orphanages and schools, which have now been visited by over 11,000 orphans . Shortly thereafter, associations emerged in Austria ("Vision for Africa, Association of Christian Charity"), in Switzerland ("Vision for Africa"), in the USA ("Vision for Africa USA") and in Uganda ("Vision for Africa International") ) who are committed to the same goals. Already in 2017 more than 5000 children at 180 schools in Uganda ("Land of Hope" in Mukono ), Kenya, Rwanda and Algeria were supported.

She now lives as a missionary in Uganda for more than half of the year. With her children's choir “Vision Choir” she has toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland several times on a multi-week tour.

Prean is a popular speaker at Christian seminars and workshops and the author of several Christian books.
