Maria Manuela Portugal Eanes
Maria Manuela Duarte Neto Portugal Ramalho Eanes (born December 29, 1938 in Almada ) is a Portuguese lawyer. As the wife of António Ramalho Eanes , she was Primeira-dama of Portugal from July 1976 to March 1986.
Career
She is one of two children of Manuel Neto de Portugal (1909–2000) and his first wife Laura Duarte (~ 1910–1975).
She completed her law studies with a doctorate. She then worked at the Ministry of Health, the Instituto de Obras Sociais and the Ministry of Education. In October 1970 she married the military Ramalho Eanes in the chapel of the Palácio de Queluz . The marriage resulted in two sons.
After her husband was elected President, she changed the role of Primeira-dama by taking on representative tasks. In 1983 she co-founded the Instituto de Apoio à Criança .
