Sofijiwka ( Ukrainian Софіївка ; Russian Софиевка Sofijewka ) is an urban-type settlement in the center of Ukraine with about 6,600 inhabitants (2019) and is the administrative center of Sofijivka Raion .
geography
The village is located in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast 90 km southwest of the Dnipro and 43 km east of Kryvyi Rih . It is located on the upper reaches of the Kamjanka River , a tributary of the Basawluk . The national trunk road N 11 runs through Sofijivka .

history
Sofijiwka was founded between 1791 and 1796 by a general of the Tsarist army named Dunin, who named the newly founded village after his wife Sophia. The place has had the status of an urban-type settlement since 1957.
