Aviatorske ( Ukrainian Авіаторське ; Russian Авиаторское Avijatorskoje ) is an urban-type settlement in Ukraine with about 2,400 inhabitants (2013) and is administratively part of the city of Dnipro .

geography

Aviatorske is located within the municipality of Nowooleksandriwka in the southeast of Dnipro at the city's airport, 3 km from the right bank of the Dnieper .

The city ​​center of Dnipro in the northwest and 79 km downstream, the city of Zaporizhia can be reached via the N 08 road .

history

As military town number 45 for the employees of the Soviet air defense forces built by German prisoners of war in the 1950s, the population and the infrastructure of the air force base grew with its increasing importance. The most modern interceptors and since the 1970s MiG-25 were stationed on it to protect the Dnepr region as the most important economic region of Ukraine. In the mid-1990s, the military gave up the site and handed management over to the civil authorities. On February 5, 2004, the former military site officially received the status of an urban-type settlement called Awiatorske.
