Apostolowe ( Ukrainian Апо́столове ; Russian Апостолово Apostolowo ) is a Ukrainian city in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with 14,252 inhabitants (2015). The city is an important railway junction at the intersection of two railway lines and the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
geography
The oblast capital Dnipro is 175 km northeast of the city. The road N 23 runs past the city , which connects the city to the northwest after 45 km with Krywyj Rih and further on with Kropywnyzkyj and leads to the east after 65 km to Nikopol and a further 80 kilometers to Zaporizhia . Furthermore runs the territorial road T-04-19 of Selenodolsk after Sofijiwka through the city. The Dnepr-Kryvyi-Rih Canal runs 2 km southwest of the city . The city has a train station on the Kryvyi Rih – Komysh – Zorya and Kherson – Dnipro railway lines .
In addition to the city itself, the municipality of Apostolowe also includes the villages of Ukrajinka (Ukrainian Українка ) ⊙ and Novomarjaniwka (Ukrainian Новомар'янівка ) ⊙ .
history
The city was founded in 1793. Between 1818 and 1923 the place was called Pokrovskoje (Russian Покровское ). During the Second World War , the city was occupied by the German Wehrmacht on August 17, 1941 and liberated by the Red Army on February 5, 1944 as part of the Nikopol-Krywyj Riher operation . Apostolowe has had city status since 1956.
