Pidhorodne ( Ukrainian Підгородне ; Russian Подгородное Podgorodnoje ) is a city in the Dnipro Raion of the Ukrainian Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with about 20,000 inhabitants (2020).
geography
The city lies on the banks of the Samara , a tributary of the Dnieper , 15 km north of the Dnipro Oblast and Rajon center . The M 04 / E 50 trunk road runs through Pidhorodne and meets the M 18 / E 105 on the outskirts . In addition, the territorial road T – 04–10, which leads north, begins here .
The village of Peremoha ( Перемога ) ⊙ also belongs to the municipality .
history
A village on the site of today's city was first mentioned in the early 17th century. In 1778 it became Sloboda . According to the census of 1826, there were 1,044 residents in 180 households in the village, which had 8 windmills and several water mills. Before the First World War, 7831 people lived in 1170 households in Pidhorodne. Until the Bolsheviks seized power , the Kronsgarten colony , which was founded by German Russian mennonites , was also located in the city .
In 1932 and 1933 the place was hit by the Holodomor , a great famine. During the German-Soviet War , Pidhorodne was occupied by the Wehrmacht from August 1941 to September 1943 .
Between 1920 and 1959 the village was the district center of the Pidhorodne district . Pidhorodne received city status in 1981.
