Solone (Ukrainian Солоне ; Russian Солёное / Soljonoje ) is an urban-type settlement in the Ukrainian Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with around 7,600 inhabitants (2016).
geography
The settlement in the south of the oblast lies on the Solonenka brook and is the center of the Solone Rajon of the same name, 42 km south of the Dnipro oblast center . The settlement council municipality includes the villages Apolloniwka ( Аполлонівка ) Hontscharka ( Гончарка ) Dniprowske ( Дніпровське ) and Serhijiwka ( Сергіївка ) and the settlement Schdanowe ( Жданове ).
history
The place originated in the 17th century and was called Novoseliwka until the 1780s, but was then renamed "Solone" based on the Solonenka river flowing through it. Since 1960, Solone has had urban-type settlement status.
