Petrykivka ( Ukrainian Петриківка ; Russian Петриковка Petrikowka ) is an urban-type settlement in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast of Ukraine with 4,704 inhabitants (2013).
Petrykivka is famous as a center of folk art and tradition, as well as an original style of decorative painting , which entered the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage as Petrikivka Painting in 2013 .
geography
The place is the administrative center of Petrykivka Raion and is located about 45 km northeast of the Dnipro Oblast center and 25 km north of Kamjanske . The village of Lobojkivka is 7 km southeast of Petrykivka.
In addition to Petrykivka, the settlement community also includes the villages Shovtnewe (Ukrainian Жовтневе ), Sotnyzke (Ukrainian Сотницьке ) and Chervonopartysanske (Ukrainian Червонопартизанське ).
history
According to a legend, the village was founded by the Cossack Petryk, who gave his protection to the serfs from several villages. The oldest written mention of Petrikovka comes from the year 1772. During the German occupation in World War II , Petryvka was the capital of the Petrikovka district within the Imperial Commissariat of Ukraine . The village received urban-type settlement status in 1957.
