Pokrovskoe (Ukrainian Покровське ; Russian Покровское / Pokrovskoje - after "Pokrov" - Church Slavic short form for Pokrov Preswjatoi Bogorodozy , the holiday "Protection and Intercession of the Holy Mother of God") is an urban-type settlement in the southeast of the Ukrainian Oblast with about 10.800 inhabitants in 2013 ).
Pokrowske is the administrative center of Pokrowske district . The place emerged in the 18th century from an administrative seat of the Zaporozhian Cossacks (first mentioned in 1779) and has had the status of an urban-type settlement since 1957.
geography
Pokrovke is located on the right bank of the Vovcha River , a tributary of the Samara, 127 km southeast of the Dnipro Oblast center and 94 km east of Zaporizhia .
Administratively part of the settlement municipality also includes the villages Wodjane ( Водяне ) Hapono-Metschetne ( Гапоно-Мечетне ) Selena Dolnya ( Зелена Долина ) Otrischky ( Отрішки ) Petrykiw ( Петриків ) Romanky ( Романки ) Skotuwate ( Скотувате ) Starokasjaniwske ( Старокасянівське ), Zykowe ( Цикове ) and Tschornenkowe ( Чорненкове ).

The Pokrovsky Raion, the administrative center of which is the place, is located in the east of the Dnepropetrovsk Oblast and borders on the Donetsk Oblast . It has an area of 1216 km² and a population of 36,319 inhabitants (2012). The population density is 30 inhabitants per km².
