Verkhivzewe ( Ukrainian Верхівцеве ; Russian Верховцево Verkhovtsewo ) is a small town and railway junction in the center of Ukraine , Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with about 10,000 inhabitants (2016).
Geographical location
The city is located in the southeast of the Verkhnyodniprovsk Raion near the border with the Krynichky Raion . The village of Schyroke ( Широке ) ⊙ also belongs to the city council . To the south of the city are the springs of the Saksahan , a 144 km long tributary of the Inhulez , and the Mokra Sura , a 138 km long tributary of the Dnieper . The closest major city is Kamjanske , 34 km away. The Rajon capital of Verkhnyodniprovsk is 18 km north and the Dnipro oblast center is 54 km east of Verkhivtseve. The city has a train station on the Krywyj Rih – Jassynuwata railway on the Prydniprowska Salisnyzja .
history
Founded in 1884 as a railway station, the town received city status in 1956. During the German-Soviet War , Werchivzewe was occupied by the German Wehrmacht on August 13, 1941 . The reconquest by the Red Army took place on October 23, 1943.
