Serhiy Maksymowytsch Buchalo (born January 25 . Jul / 7. February  1907 . Greg in Verkhivtseve , yekaterinoslav governorate , Russian Empire ; † 16th May 1988 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian - Soviet politician and doctor of economics.

Buchalo was born in Verkhivtseve, now in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast , Ukraine , to a working-class family. He studied at the Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute until 1931 , where he then worked as a scientific assistant and lecturer until 1938.

Between 1939 and 1944 he was Commissioner and Deputy People's Commissar for Education of the Ukrainian SSR. From 1950 to 1959 he was head of the scientific and organizational department of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine . From 1959 he was Vice President and from 1964 Chairman of the Council of Productive Forces of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. From 1967 to 1988 he was a professor and head of the Department of Planning and Industry of the Kiev Institute of National Economy (today's Kiev National Economic University ). He died in Kiev in 1988 and is buried in the Baikowe Cemetery.
