Maria Mello (born June 2, 1994 ) is a Uruguayan athlete .

Career

Mello is active in javelin throwing . She comes from Fray Bentos and belongs to the athletics federation of the Departamento Río Negro . As a 15-year-old in April 2010 in Uberlandia at the qualifying tournament for the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games , which she finished in third place, she improved her national javelin throwing record of 38.90 , which was set in December 2008 at the 2008 South American student games in Montevideo Meters to 40.05 meters. Mello, trained by Milton Cardozo , won the title at the 2010 South American Youth Championships in Santiago and set a new national record with 42.42 meters. She took part in the 2011 World Youth Championships in Lille , France , where she finished 9th. She threw the spear in the final of the competition at 46.62 meters. At the Uruguayan Championships 2011 she won the title in November of that year with a width of 40.51 meters. Almost two years later, she won the 2013 Junior South American Championships in Argentina with a 15 centimeter lead over the Brazilian Edivania dos Santos Araujo . On October 19, 2013, she set a Uruguayan U-20 record of 50.27 meters in Resistencia , which is still the national record (as of June 15, 2015), just like her Uruguayan who was set up the following year Record. She has held this position since February 27, 2014 with a achieved 51.68 meters. In 2014 she also took part with the Uruguayan team at the Pan-American Sports Festival (Festival Deportivo Panamericano) in Mexico . In the competition it achieved a width of 51.04 meters and thus reached 5th place. At the Ibero-American Championships that year in São Paulo , she only had two valid attempts in the final and finished 6th with 43.83 meters. In April 2015 she won the gold medal in javelin at the Grand Prix Sudamericano ( Torneo Darwin Piñeyrúa ) in Montevideo.
