Maria Regina monastery church

history

Due to the tightness of the Charlottenburg Monastery of the Good Shepherd , the Sisters of the Good Shepherd opened another branch in April 1887 in what was then Weddinger's section of Residenzstraße. The neo-Gothic predecessor church was destroyed in the Second World War. In 1964 a new building was built. In 1983 the monastery was closed and since then it has been used by Caritas . She runs an inpatient children's and youth facility there. The church serves as a storage room.

Structure

In the central building with the plan of a Greek cross , four cubic structures are grouped around a higher one in the middle, which seem to penetrate each other. They are made of reinforced concrete with a skeleton structure , which is filled with masonry and faced with sandstone . They are covered with flat roofs . The bell tower grows out of the middle structure . The walls are sparsely structured by vertical windows made of concrete glass .

Bell tower

In the bell tower hang three bells of bronze , which from 1965 Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling were cast.
