Maria Theresia von Montfort (* 1663 ; † November 17, 1742 ) was a countess of Montfort and abbess of the free world Buchau women's monastery in what is now Bad Buchau am Federsee .

Life

Maria Theresia was a daughter of Count Johann VIII von Montfort-Tettnang (1627–1696) from his second marriage to Countess Maria Katharina von Sulz (1630–1686). Maria Theresa entered the monastery on June 15, 1685 at the age of 22. Her dressing took place on September 24, 1685.

The election as abbess on September 14, 1693 was decided after three ballots with six pro-votes. A long term of office followed, which was characterized by the initiation of extensive construction work on the monastery buildings. In 1695 the monastery acquired the Bailiwick of Oggelsbeuren . During her reign, the abbey area had its largest area in terms of area. She rearranged the services and anniversaries of the monastery. Her will from 1740 and an extensive description of the funeral ceremonies by the chief bailiff Joseph Martin Grüeb can be found in the archive of the monastery.

Was located on the left front pillar of the collegiate church of St. Cornelius and Cyprianus until the renovation in the 20th century . She died in 1742.
