Maria Theresa of Savoy , it. Maria Teresa, French Marie Thérèse (born January 31, 1756 in Turin , † June 2, 1805 in Graz ) was a princess of Sardinia from the House of Savoy . She was the wife of the Count of Artois, who later became King of France as Charles X.

Life

On November 16, 1773, Maria Theresa married Charles-Philippe, the Count of Artois, a grandson of the French King Louis XV. and brother of Louis XVI. who only became the penultimate French king under the name of Charles X after her death and after the First Napoleonic Empire . Two and a half years earlier, her sister Maria Josepha had his older brother Louis of Provence, who later became King Louis XVIII. got married.

Neither of them met with much interest in the marriage: Charles actually wanted the Princess of Condé and also had a close relationship with his sister-in-law Marie Antoinette of Austria . Maria Theresa was one of the most unpopular people at the French royal court.
