Luise Maria Josepha of Savoy or Maria Giuseppina Luigia, French Marie Joséphine Louise de Savoie (born September 2, 1753 in Turin , Italy , † November 13, 1810 in Hartwell House in Aylesbury near Oxford ), was Countess of Provence by marriage.

Maria Josepha was the second daughter of Viktor Amadeus III. and his wife Maria Antonia of Spain . Her father became King of Sardinia-Piedmont and Duke of Savoy in 1773.

On May 14, 1771, she married a grandson of Louis XV. , Count Stanislas Xavier of Provence, who later became King Louis XVIII. of France was. He was the brother of the later kings Louis XVI. and Charles X. Maria Josepha became Countess of Provence through marriage. After the accession of Louis XVI. she carried the title "Madame". Maria Josepha fled France with her husband on the night of June 20th to 21st, 1791 after the outbreak of the French Revolution . That same night, Louis XVI. with his family the unsuccessful attempt to escape , which ended in Varennes . The couple was initially accepted in Brussels , then in Koblenz . Karl Philipp, Count of Artois, had also found refuge there. The later Charles X was the second brother of Louis XVI. as well as the husband of Maria Josepha's younger sister Maria Theresa . The exile forced the Count of Provence to lead an unsteady life under various aliases and constant fear of assassinations, which led him via Verona , Blankenburg , Mitau in Courland and Sweden to England , where he first worked in Wanstead , later in Gosfield near London and finally resided in Hartwell Castle (Hartwell House) in Aylesbury near Oxford.

Maria Josepha died there on November 13, 1810 at the age of 58. Her marriage to the later Louis XVIII. had remained childless.

Maria Josepha is not listed among the queens of France because she died four years before her husband acceded to the throne.
