Maria Vitória (singer)

Maria Vitória Borges (stage name: Maria Vitória , nickname: MarVi ; born February 11, 2001 ) is an East Timorese pop singer.

Maria Vitória comes from Soibada and has four siblings. Her family produces and sells water spinach (Kankung) . Maria Vitória came to Dili to sell water spinach.

In the second season of the Indonesian singing casting show D′Academy Asia ( DAA2, end of 2016), she came fourth behind three Indonesians. Six candidates from six Southeast Asian countries take part in the competition. The D stands for the music genre Dangdut . This Indonesian pop music is very popular in East Timor, but until now there have been no East Timorese interpreters.

The success of Maria Vitórias led to a high popularity in East Timor. When she returned to East Timor on January 5, 2017, Maria Vitória was celebrated in a car convoy. 12,000 people received them. The Deputy Minister of Education, Dulce Soares , promised her on behalf of the East Timorese government that she would support her further training if she so wished. In her speech, Maria Vitória thanked President Taur Matan Ruak and former Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão for the help so far . The MP Francisco Miranda Branco named Maria Vitória an East Timorese ambassador for the Dangdut. It was also called the "Pearl of East Timor". The Ministry of Health supported Maria Vitória's mother for treatment of her breast cancer in an Indonesian hospital.

In 2018 Maria Vitória took part in the sixth season of The Voice Portugal and became one of the top 5 finalists with mentor Marisa Liz . In one episode, Xanana Gusmão was a guest in support of Maria Vitória as a guest. On December 30, 2018, Maria Vitória won the final of The Voice Portugal.

In 2019 Marvi became the first UNICEF ambassador (UNICEF Youth Advocate) from East Timor.
