Maria im Stein is a more than 500 year old place of pilgrimage in the Aachtobel nature reserve below the Steinhöfe , in the area of the village of Lippertsreute belonging to Überlingen and near the village of Hohenbodman (municipality of Owingen ) in the Lake Constance district of Baden-Württemberg .

Legend

Legend has it that Alberto von Bodmann was taken prisoner while traveling to the Holy Land against the Turks. After many years, Alberto saw all earthly hopes fade and so turned to God and Mary in prayer. After a happy escape from Turkish captivity, he built a church here, in the place where he saw his home castle for the first time, true to his pledge to the Mother of God.

history

On February 24, 1550, the chapel was first mentioned in writing in an inheritance lapel . On a map from 1663 the place is marked with a cross and a tower. In 1715 extensive repairs are made to the dilapidated chapel.

The place of pilgrimage, which is only accessible via a hiking trail, experienced its greatest heyday in the years from 1720 to 1750. At that time, pilgrims flocked to the miraculous image of the “ comforter of the sad ”. Numerous votive tablets testify that help was found through prayers to the Mother of Mercy.

The pilgrimage site was closed at the beginning of the 19th century, and the image of grace came to the Lippertsreut parish church. In 1948 a new chapel was built in the Tobel. The main pilgrimage time is May, and masses and devotions take place until autumn .

Pilgrimage song

Exalted Queen of Heaven,
our mediator on the throne
Pardoned by the Lord
chosen as a pure mother,
she sanctified from the beginning;
look up to us, lovely mediator;
look up to us, lovely mediator!
Bride of the Spirit,
that the Lord looks at with love,
by God's unexplored power
the Eternal Bearer;
be our mother for and for
in humility we flee to you;
in humility we flee to you!
O you, holy, pure and great
the holy carried in the holy womb;
O you who are their God and Lord,
the salvation, the hope of all the world,
with a tender mother's arm embraced:
Hear your children's song of praise;
Hear your children's song of praise!

trail

The Jubiläumsweg Bodenseekreis , a 111-kilometer hiking trail that was signposted in 1998 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Bodenseekreis, runs right past the chapel .
