Marian Antal Dougherty (* 25. November 1984 in Denver , Colorado as Marian Antal Dalmy ) is a former American football player who most recently in the 2013 season when Portland Thorns FC was under contract.

Life

Dougherty was born in Denver , Colorado, the daughter of a Hungarian and an American . However, she grew up in the suburb of Lakewood and attended Green Mountain High School there between 1998 and 2002 . After graduating from high school, she went to Santa Clara University in 2003 and studied communication . She did her doctorate here in spring 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts .

Career

Dougherty started her career in her hometown with the Denver Diamonds. In addition to club soccer, she also played in the women soccer team of Green Mountain High School , the Green Mountains Rams, between 1999 and 2002 . She won the State Championships with the Diamonds in 2000 and 2002 before enrolling in Santa Clara University . During this time she played for their women soccer team, the Santa Clara Broncos. After graduating in spring 2007, she joined the Chicago Red Stars. In Chicago , Dougherty played 40 WPS games between 2009 and 2010 and scored 1 goal. She then moved to Florida to play MagicJack for league rivals . She ran in 18 games in the 2011 season before she was pulled in the fourth round of the Supplemental Draft for the NWSL at position 32 by Portland Thorns FC . Dougherty made her league debut there on April 13, 2013 against FC Kansas City , on April 21, she scored her only goal in the NWSL in a 2-1 win against Seattle Reign FC . After winning the championship with Portland, she announced her retirement from professional sport in November 2013.

International

Dougherty played eleven games for the US national team from 2007 to 2009 , and won the bronze medal at the 2007 World Cup .

Personal

Her paternal great-uncle , Imre Antal , played for the Hungarian national football team in the 1930s .
