Marian Marsh , as Violet Ethelred Krauth , (* 17th October 1913 in Trinidad and Tobago ; † 9. November 2006 in Palm Desert , California , also known as Marilyn Morgan and Marian Henderson ) was a Hollywood - actress and environmentalist .

Life

Marsh was born in 1913 as the youngest of four children of a German chocolate manufacturer and his British wife in Trinidad and Tobago. During the First World War , the family moved to Massachusetts . In the mid-1920s, Marian Marsh's older sister Jean signed a contract with FBO Pictures in Hollywood , prompting the family to relocate to the west coast of the United States. Marsh was discovered in 1928 while accompanying her older sister on screen tests. Marsh made a first, brief film appearance, but was quickly released. She then signed another contract with Samuel Goldwyn and called herself Marilyn Morgan . She began to study acting with Nance O'Neil. In 1929, the 16-year-old signed with Warner Bros. and changed her name to Marian Marsh .

Despite her commitment to 30 short films, her career seemed to be falling asleep when she made her breakthrough in 1931 at the side of John Barrymore with the film Svengali . In the same year she was voted one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars of the Year and made other successful films, including The Mad Genius , also with Barrymore as a partner, and The Road to Singapore with William Powell .

In 1932, after the critically acclaimed drama Under Eighteen was poorly rated, Marsh separated from Warner and signed a contract with Columbia Pictures in 1935 . There she shot, among other things, under the direction of Josef von Sternbergs at the side of Peter Lorre Schuld und Sühne and together with Boris Karloff The Black Room .

Marsh married Albert Scott in 1938 and had two children. After that, she only made five films before retiring from the film business. Scott died in the late 1950s and Marsh married aviation pioneer and entrepreneur Clifford Henderson in 1960.
