Marianna Csörnyei

Marianna Csörnyei (born October 8, 1975 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian mathematician .

Csörnyei won the Hungarian Schweitzer Mathematics Competition in 1996 and was awarded a gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Istanbul in 1993 . From 1994 she studied at the Loránd Eötvös University , where she received her doctorate under György Petruska in 1999 ( investigations in the geometric theory of dimensions in the plane and in Banach spaces ). She was then a Research Fellow from 1999 and Professor at University College London from 2004 and has been Professor at the University of Chicago since 2011 .

In 2009/2010 she was visiting professor at Yale University and visiting scholar at Cambridge ( Isaac Newton Institute and University), Texas A&M University , Jyväskylä University in Finland , the University of Washington and the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences . In 2003/04 she was at the Institute for Advanced Study .

It deals with real analysis, geometrical measurement theory and geometrical nonlinear functional analysis. It proved the equivalence of different definitions of sets of measure 0 in infinitely dimensional Banach spaces .

In 2002 she received the Whitehead Prize and in the same year the Wolfson Research Merit Award from the Royal Society. In 2008 she received a Philip Leverhulme Prize in the field of mathematics and statistics. In 2010 she was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderabad (with Giovanni Alberti, David Preiss Differentiability of Lipschitz functions, structure of null sets and other problems ).

She served on the editorial boards of Mathematika and the Journal and Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society .
