Marianne Brandt Competition

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Marianne Brandt Competition is named after the Bauhaus artist Marianne Brandt and is advertised worldwide for young designers, photographers and artists. The competition was first carried out in 2001 on the initiative of the Chemnitz “Marianne Brandt Gesellschaft eV” and Clauss Dietel and takes place every three years. The competition is sponsored by the art association “Villa Arte eV” based in Chemnitz.

description

Marianne Brandt, whose work always combined aesthetics and functionality, was one of the best-known artists of the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau . "The poetry of the functional", the motto of the competition named after her, outlines the poles of her way of working.

The competition gives young designers the opportunity to submit their work in three categories. The two categories “ product design ” and “ photography ” are fixed, while the third category varies.

Anyone who has not yet reached the age of 40 by June 17th of the year of the competition and has their main residence in Europe is eligible to participate. The main prize is endowed with € 5,000 each in all three categories. A jury made up of international experts will decide on the awarding of the main prizes. In addition, the Free State of Saxony will award a special prize of € 5,000 as well. There are also special prizes offered by sponsors.
