Marianne Bernadotte von Wisborg (born July 15, 1924 in Helsingborg , Sweden ; nee Gullan Marianne Lindberg ) is a Swedish actress and philanthropist who married Count Sigvard Bernadotte von Wisborg, a former prince of Sweden, in 1961 .

Life

Marianne Bernadotte is the daughter of Helge Lindberg and his wife Thyra Dahlman.

Her first marriage was to Gabriel Tchang (1919–1980), son of a Chinese ambassador in Stockholm . They had three children:

  • Robert Gabriel Tchang (1948–2012)
  • Richard Antoine Tchang (1950–1952)
  • Marie Gabrielle Tchang Lagergren (* 1953).

Her second marriage was with the former Swedish Prince Sigvard Bernadotte, the second son of King Gustav VI. Adolf and his first wife, Princess Margaret of Connaught . On July 2, 1951, Sigvard, for himself, his wife and legitimate descendants, was raised by Grand Duchess Charlotte to the Luxembourgish nobility with the titles of Sigvard Oscar Frederik Prince Bernadotte and Comte de Wisborg . Hence she can call herself Princess Bernadotte . Counts and Countesses of Wisborg are also treated as part of the Swedish nobility. The Swedish hotelier Bicky Chakraborty is married to her sister. She was a guest at the wedding of Victoria of Sweden and Daniel of Sweden in 2010 . In 2015 she attended the wedding of Carl Philip of Sweden and Sofia of Sweden .

Working life

Bernadotte studied from 1945 to 1948 at the Royal Dramatic Theater Acting School Dramatens in Elevskola. After her training, she worked for eleven years under the name Marianne Lindberg at the Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm. In 1983 Marianne Bernadotte received a degree in art history from Stockholm University . Her scientific work includes works by the glass artist and sculptor Edvin Öhrström. Marianne Bernadotte also became an international representative for Sotheby's auction house . She had good reviews in July 2014 after hosting the popular Sommar radio show on her 90th birthday.

philanthropy

Bernadotte is Honorary Chairwoman of the Swedish Dylexia Foundation and Honorary President of the International Rodin Remediation Academy . On her initiative, the Sigvard Bernadotte and Marianne Research Foundation for youthful eye care was created in 1989. She launched a similar initiative for the creation of an international foundation in New York and at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, she created the Sigvard Bernadotte and Marianne Research Laboratories of Pediatric Ophthalmology . In 1998 she was awarded an honorary doctorate in the medical field of the institute. Marianne Bernadotte is a supporter of the arts, for example through the Marianne and Sigvard Bernadotte Arts Fund , which she created in 1982 to mark Sigvard Bernadotte's seventy-fifth birthday. Grants are awarded annually to young academics in music, theater, design and art. Many of these young artists were able to develop their talents at an early stage with this opportunity and later became very successful.

Honors

She has been recognized for her commitment in areas such as dyslexia , physical disabilities, and child eye care and as a patron of the arts . As the founder of the Sigvard & Marianne Bernadotte Research Foundation for Children's Eye Care , the International Research Association for Children's Eye Care Inc. , the Marianne Bernadotte Scholarship Fund for Prominent Dyslexia Research and Education, and the Marianne & Sigvard Bernadotte Arts Fund , she actively supports public and non-profit institutions.

Marianne Bernadotte was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Karolinska Institute in 1998 for her commitment to research into dyslexia and pediatric ophthalmology and an honorary doctorate from the University of Bologna , Institute of Psychology, in 2006 in recognition of her contribution to dyslexia research.
