Carl Philip Edmund Bertil, Prince of Sweden, Duke of Värmland (born May 13, 1979 in Stockholm ) is the second child and the only son of King Carl XVI. Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia . Carl Philip was born the Crown Prince of Sweden. After the succession law was changed in 1980, his older sister Victoria became Crown Princess. Prince Carl Philip is now fourth in line to the Swedish throne .

After completing his school education in 1999, Prince Carl Philip began his military service . He finished this in 2002 with the rank of lieutenant . From 2003 to May 2006 he studied graphic design at the Forsbergs School of Design in Stockholm. In 2009 he made his debut as a designer with a silver cutlery collection at Svenskt Tenn . In the following year he presented a stove fire protection designed by him. In 2011 he successfully completed his studies in agricultural science at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Alnarp with the Lantmästarexamen.

The prince has been an avid amateur photographer since childhood and, among other things, pursued his hobby professionally as an intern at the US magazine National Geographic . In May 2007 he presented 30 detailed views of flowers and other natural motifs from the Uppsala Botanical Garden in the Anatomical Theater of the Gustavianum Museum in Uppsala under the title A Breath of Paradise .

Carl Philip married Sofia Hellqvist on June 13, 2015 in the Palace Church in Stockholm . The engagement took place on June 27, 2014. The couple have lived in a villa together on Djurgården since June 2011 . Their first son, Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil, was born on April 19, 2016 . His second son Gabriel Carl Walther was born on August 31, 2017 .

Carl Philip is the godfather of his niece, Princess Estelle , and his nephew, Prince Nicolas .

The coat of arms is quartered by a narrow golden paw cross and has a heart shield .

The heart shield is split. Right in blue and red, divided diagonally to the right by a silver sloping bar with a golden wasa streak . At the top left in blue a golden eagle soaring to the right , above which the constellation “Big Dipper” with seven golden stars hovers. Below is a roof-shaped silver bridge with two tinned towers, which stands on a middle, large and two smaller passages, above a silver field cut with silver waves.

In the first and fourth fields in blue three (2: 1) set golden crowns (for the small imperial coat of arms of Sweden ). In the second field is in blue, on three silver obliquely left wave beams a golden rotgezungter and -bewehrter winning gold, Leo ( Folkunger Coat of Arms). In the third field a blue, red-tongued and armored blue eagle on a silver background (Värmland coat of arms).

On the shield rests a golden, five-pointed prince's crown with lace pearls and a blue cap with gold crowns. Between the tips there are black wasagarrows placed vertically.

The actual coat of arms is enclosed by the collar of the Royal Order of Seraphines .
