Maridalia Hernández Morel (born August 19, 1959 in Santiago de los Caballeros ) is a Dominican singer .

Hernández attended the Academia Dominicana de Música and studied cello and singing at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música . At the Concurso Nacional de Estudiantes de Música she won first prize in the piano category. In 1981 she made her debut as a singer in the musical Sonido para una Imagen , which Luis José Mella produced for the Teatro Nacional . In the same year she appeared in rock and jazz concerts under the direction of Manuel Tejada .

In 1982 she sang Maria Magdalena in the rock opera Jesucristo Super Estrella (Jesus Christ Superstar) at the Teatro Nacional and gave a concert in the Palacio de Bellas Artes . In 1983 she founded the group 4:40 with Juan Luis Guerra , with which she performed for four years.

In 1984 she was invited to a concert with Camilo Sesto at the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Puerto Rico. At the International Song Festival of Viña del Mar 1986 she won first prize with the song Para quererte by Manuel Tejada and José Antonio Rodríguez . In the same year she received the Premio El Dorado , the Premio Casandra and the Premio El Soberano . In 1987 she performed at the Teatro Nacional de Santo Domingo with the singer Alberto Cortez .

In 1988 she was the guest of honor of the pianist Michel Camilo at the Madrid Jazz Festival, and in 1989 she won third prize at the OTI Festival with the song Te ofrezco by Juan Luis Guerra . In 1994 she was honored at the 27th ACE Award ceremony in New York. In 1995 she took part in the TV special Un solo pueblo in Puerto Rico. In 1996 she released the album Antiguo with the Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba .
